What is
Numismatics?
Numismatics is an auxiliary science of archeology that deals with the
study of coins and medals.
History
In March 1927 the "Organic Law of the Central Bank of Ecuador"
and the "law of currencies" for 73 years, was issued was the only
bank of issue.
The Museum of the Central Bank of Ecuador was opened in 1969 and
exhibits pieces of Archaeology, ceramics, colonial and republican art,
contemporary art.
The National Museum of the Central Bank of Ecuador, is premised on the
permanent exhibition and temporary permit us to read the history of the country
in a different way, by way of an open book which society knows the basic
substrate of their culture through the archaeological and artistic heritage
that sets in their living rooms.

The Numismatic Museum of the Central Bank of Ecuador shows the national

THE EXHIBITIONS
v Prehispanic
Hall

Republic Hall
In 1833 the first coins were minted in Ecuador, which names were based

Banks" appeared and emitted currency based in the Octogecimal System.
During José María Plácido Caamaño’s government (1884) the silver Sucre
was created, based in the French Decimal System, which was the Republic of
Ecuador’s monetary unit which was in force until February 2000.

history of the institution, the emission of coins and bills from the first
third of the twentieth century, the changes brought by the Second World War and
the postwar period, the inflation of the past twenty years and the birth of the
