MILITARY GEOGRAPHIC INSTITUTE

The Military Geographic Institute or IGM performs didactic projections about the origin of the planets, the development of galaxies and the formation of the constellations. In addition, the meeting is complemented by talks in which the technology used to record the sky review.

It has a small curve concrete and steel structure, with horizontal lines that give strength to design and make the building visible from various points of the city. Access to the facility is through stairs in the grand entrance hall. The main attraction is the planetarium, which consists of a prism, crowned by a dome made of mesh and  concrete.

DESCRIPTION

The place has the ability to group 350 people. The diameter of the dome is 25 m and its height from the floor to the zenith is 12 m. The structure is reinforced concrete, covered by a German screen. On site, the first admiration is on the projector: a "monster" German light brand Zeiss Jena 2 000 kilos and 5 meters high.

It is characterized by its different rooms where reviews of the development of astronomy is saved, the passage of humanity to the cosmos, scientific experiences of Ecuador in Antarctica and the historical development of the machines with which maps

HISTORY

Dr. Isidro Ayora was who created the Geographic Military Service as a Department attached to the Army. In 1947, during the presidential term of Dr. José María Velasco Ibarra, he was elevated to the status of Institute. It is the institution that chart every inch the true geographic Ecuador face of effortful and silently, fulfilling 77 years of institutional life and being the architect of his own destiny and integral development, whose revenues has benefited the Ecuadorian nation. that place opened in 1988.

ATRACTIONS

• CHAMBER OF UNIVERSAL PLANETARY: thematic programs projected on the cosmos and its phenomena. The sky, for the Andean, is like a large board that tells people about the principles of harmony and fertility with living on Earth.

• VIDEOS: astronomy techniques are combined with the aesthetic fact observes a teeming vault of stars.
